Another Santa Encounter

I must admit Drew adores Santa. He hugged him 3 times this past Saturday night. It has been a long standing tradition that he stops by my grandmother's 250 yr old church during their Christmas program each year.

(The best part, is that Santa's local elf....*hint, hint* was my brother Matt this year). I love these pictures. My heart just swelled.

Drew's 1st Birthday

We had so much fun at Uncle Matt & Aunt Kellie's house for Drew's 1st birthday party. Uncle Matt grilled hamburgers & hotdogs. Drew ate his first hotdog & boy did he like it!!

We had so much fun decorating everything John Deere!! It was so cute!!

Drew loved his egg-free chocolate cupcake with homemade buttercream icing!! You should have seen the look on his face. It was like..."where has this been my whole life?!"

He was given way too many gifts!! No child should ever get so many gifts, but he loved each & every one. He held every gift & smiled...and wanted to just play with each one.

I decorated his cake all by my lonesome...I was very proud!!

It was a great family reunion. The only times we've ever had both sides of my family together has been for me & my brother's separate weddings. Everyone had a great time!!

We won't do this for every birthday, just his first. So, I'm glad it was so much fun!! I wish I could post all the photos, but here are some highlights. I even included some video.

Birthday Favors

I have really gone back & forth for what to give as birthday favors at Drew's birthday party. Usually, you give the other kids a goodie bag of little favors. I've even been to a few lately....that even though there were not many kids, you still got the kiddy bag (crayons, toy, bubbles, etc). I'm not sure most adults appreciate that though. So, since no other kids will be there this weekend. I've been struggling to think of what to do.
Friday- I finally made a plan.
Saturday - I purchased my materials.
Sunday - I executed it.

Items Used:
1x6 lumber
sanding blocks
paint (John Deere© green & yellow)
2 foam paint brushes
steel wire
plastic frames (remove back magnet)
Liquid Nails© (bonding adhesive)
Yellow Ribbon
Kodak© glossy photo paper

Tools Used:
Miter Saw (cut lumber into preferred lengths)
Drill (to drill holes for wire)
pliers (to bend wire)
wire cutters (to cut wire)
scissors

We love ordering our Christmas cards from Shutterfly every year. Unfortunately, we missed sending out cards because of Drew's Thanksgiving due date...(we were divided ordering cards without him included...but it was too late by the time we got settled in with him). So, we thought this time.....we would give everyone a preview of what will be arriving in their mailboxes this year!! Enjoy!!

Birthday Invite

Drew is about to turn the big "1" on the 20th. (I can't believe it's been a year). We are having a small birthday gathering of family at my brother's house. My brother lives about 2.5 hours away, but he is about half-way between my grandmother & grandparents. So, it should be a perfect location. I know we could have it here & invite lots of kids & friends. However, since it's his first birthday......and he's not all that aware of what a birthday is yet, we decided that we're going to invite family & call it a day. My (kk) family is a JOHN DEERE family. Both sides of my family are composed of simple country people that are true farmers (one side cattle, one side produce). Both have their John Deere legacies. So, we are making it one big family country ho-down. I wish David's family were closer, but we will seem them over the holidays. So, Drew won't miss out on seeing them around his birthday as well.

I made a simple postcard to send out to everyone. I didn't think too much about it, but David really loves it. It's just a simple John Deere green & yellow layout (with John Deere font). If it gives anyone any ideas, I gladly share it.

I'm still figuring out what to do for the party favors, but when I do......I'll post pictures for everyone to enjoy.

Drew - walking & playing before bedtime

I noticed we haven't posted a video in a while. Drew is changing so much every day now. He loves to play, play, play. As you can see, there is never a dull moment around our house anymore. We shot this on Sunday evening right before bed.

This is to show how much Drew loves his push car! We shot this last week. Enjoy!!

First Day of Shoes

Drew started walking, really walking. Not just 1 or 2 steps. Granted he still crawls a lot (because it's faster).

However, the daycare informed us that if he was walking, he needs shoes. Shoes....doesn't seem like a big deal. You must understand. We do good to keep the boy in socks. However, since we only had a days notice on this. We took our first trip to the shoe store exclusively for Drew.

We ended up with some pretty cool kicks for him. They are Converse© Allstars. I'm very thankful we found some that weren't too heavy & bulky......plus were VELCRO!! Never in my life would I ever think "Praise the Lord for Velcro"! Again, something only motherhood could do!!

Thankfully, we remembered to take pictures of Drew's first day in shoes. He loves them. [We even managed to find some Sunday shoes very similar to this from Gymboree©.]
